The Evolution of Mara Dyer (EXCERPT)
Delighted screams pierced the air as carnival rides swirled and blinked and swung overmy head. I walked with my older brother through the crowd of people. It had been years since we were last at a fair and the second we arrived, our dad dragged our mom onto the Ferris wheel and our twelve-year-old brother absconded with my boyfriend to conquersome ride, leaving me and Daniel alone.

Imaginary Casting (Fan suggestions)
Hey there! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I decided to answer your question in a post because I get it a lot. A lot, a lot. I know what Noah and Mara look like in MY head, but a huge part of the fun of reading, I think, is getting to fill in a character’s appearance yourself. Like, for whatever reason, when I read The Hunger Games? I totally thought Peeta had black hair and olive skin and that Gale was the blond. I actually didn’t realize Peeta was blond until the Josh Hutcherson casting uproar and it altered my WHOLE WORLDVIEW.*
That said, I DO get fan suggestions for an imaginary Mara Dyer movie and between those suggestions and the fan art people post and send (which I love-I would SELL MY CAT’S SOUL for fan art, srsly), for Noah, the two most popular choices seem to be:
And:
Since Noah is a just-over-six-feet-tall-blue-eyed-messy-brown-haired smoker who looks older than his 17 years, these fan suggestions make sense. People also like Evan Peters (for the fellow American Horror Story obsessed out there, LOVE HIM SO MUCH-just dye that light blond hair, give him an English accent and voila!) and Douglas Booth, too. One cannot go wrong here, is what I’m saying.
For Mara, I see a lot of:
Ms. Scodelario:
And Ms. Stewart:
Mara’s somewhat trickier, since all you really know about her is that she’s a) shorter than Noah (like most people) and b) she’s has light skin and dark hair and also looks somewhat older than her 17 years. I kept her description vague because she’s a) anonymous and b) she’s writing in the first person. But you DO know that she’s an angsty, angry girl and both of those ladies have portrayed such characters very well so this also makes much sense. I also get some Willa Holland (Agnes!) too.
I get fewer asks about Jamie and Daniel, but to me, I’ve always pictured Daniel as Dev Patel-esque: (I love him, he is splendid in everything):
And Jamie as Aubrey Drake Graham-esque:
(Drake is also black and Jewish, which is awesome. And he has such a great smile, no?)
By -esque, by the way, I mean possessing that certain something that those actors have; not that the characters are those actors. If an imaginary Mara Dyer movie were ever made, what would matter to me most would be whether the actors cast by the people with actual power (i.e. not me) could portray the characters well. Movie magic and makeup go a long, long way; for example, Jennifer Lawrence IS Katniss for me now, but when she was first cast, I admit I was a skeptic. And I was wrong! The main thing about acting is that actors ACT, and so the relevant question is really: “Can an actor ACT the way these fictional characters behave?” more than it is “Do they look the part?” Especially for Mara; she could literally be anyone (and that is the point).
So anyway, there you have it. These are the actors fans suggest most often for an imaginary movie. (And to those fans, I love you: keep the fan art coming!)
The REAL question for anyone reading this is: who do YOU picture when you read the book?

*not really. Okay maybe a little.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer cover is finally here. I can’t find a bigger image for now but GUYS!!!! Isn’t it perfect? What do you think?
Two days after Mara walks into a police station in Miami at the close of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, she is committed for psychiatric treatment for what her parents believe is a mental breakdown. But what seems like a hallucination to everyone else is a chilling reality for Mara. Someone from her past has discovered her strange, disturbing secret and that someone wants her to pay. But she’s about to discover that the price is more than she can bear. Dark and thrilling, suspenseful and passionate, The Evolution of Mara Dyer will have readers breathlessly turning pages to find out what will become of Mara Dyer next.
There’s nothing I want. There’s nothing I can’t do. I don’t care about anything. No matter what, I’m an impostor. An actor in my own life.
I immediately thought of Noah x Mara

The second book is called:
Now I can’t wait to see the cover!
Fix me,” I commanded him. “This thing, what I’ve done- there’s something wrong with me, Noah. Fix it.”
Noah’s expression broke my heart as he brushed my hair from my face, and skimmed the line of my neck. “I can’t.”
“Why not?” I asked, my voice threatening to crack.
Noah lifted both of his hands to my face and held it. “Because,” he said, “you aren’t broken.”
